Bowen said during the course of the investigation, detectives developed La Bryan E. Clemmons, 24, of 326 Sycamore Street in Lebanon as a person of interest. He was interviewed by detectives and was later charged with criminal homicide. He is being held in the Wilson County Jail. Bowen added that Clemmons has a history of narcotics-related arrests.
Bowen said police believe that the victim, Brewington, along with another male were in the lower loop of Upton Heights purchasing narcotics. During the transaction, police believe that Clemmons produced a gun and fire shots into the vehicle driving by the victim. During the gunfire, he said, Brewington was struck in the upper torso. The victim the fled the scene and was later discovered by police.
Bowen noted that this is the third homicide to occur in the Upton Heights federal housing project since February 2007.
