Golden Bears go 4-0 in WCIT
The District 9-AAA baseball game between Gallatin and Mt. Juliet has been moved from Tuesday to Monday, 7 p.m. at Mt. Juliet. Officials are concerned about threatening weather on Tuesday.

Coach Jim Carter's Golden Bears improved to 9-2 on the season with a sparking 4-0 run in the Wilson County Invitational, outscoring their opponents 44-7.

Mt. Juliet downed Giles County 12-0 Saturday; swept two games Friday -- 18-3 over Trousdale County and 5-4 over Summit. On Thursday, MJHS opened the WCIT Thursday, March 20 with a 9-0 win over Franklin's Page High School.

Pitchers Marshall Gei, Curt Hoppe, Jonathan Smith and Zach Austin all won games on the mound for the Golden Bears.

Offensively, MJHS was led by Curt Hoppe, who went 6-for-13 with four doubles, a home run, and 11 RBIs. Alex Houser went 6-for-8 and was on base 11 times in 13 plate appearances tournament play.

WCHS plays Portland Monday at Vandy
Wilson Central's Wildcats will take on District 9-AAA rival Portland Monday evening at Vanderbilt's Hawkins Field. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.

Coach Anthony Ford's team stands 2-7 after splitting a pair of Saturday games to wrap up the Wilson County Invitational.

Tony Pfefferle drove in three runs on a two-for-four effort at the plate while Ryan Hill went two-for-two with two RBI. Ben Spradley added a two-run, two-out triple in the third for the winners.

Ninth grader Ryan Hill (1-0) picked up the pitching decision with three innings of work. The ninth grader scattered three hits and struck out four batters.

Earlier in the day Saturday, the Wildcats dropped a 7-1 decision to Summit High School, mustering just four hits.

Wilson Central was blanked 1-0 by Giles County High on Friday, but opened WCIT play with a 7-1 victory over White House Thursday evening.

Malone Smith, A.J. Franklin and Kyle Hubbuch each had two hits against the Blue Devils, while Pfefferle added a two-run double.

Tuesday, March 25, WCHS is scheduled to host GlenbrooK North High out of Illinois in a 7 p.m. contest.
