Union headed to Lewiston

KENTUCKY TEAM WINS SUPER REGION

By TOMMY BRYAN

LEBANON -- Union College rode a brilliant pitching performance from lefty Lance Doughtery Friday to defeat Cumberland 4-1 in the finals of the NAIA South Central Super Regional at Stockton Field.

The Region XII champs will take a record of 47-16 to Lewiston, Idaho next week for the 52nd annual AVISTA NAIA World Series. Union will be making its first ever trip to the national championship tournament after winning the Super Regional two games to one.

"Union deserved it," said CU head coach Woody Hunt. They out-played us the whole series. We didn't hit the last two days, but Union's pitchers had something to do with that. We could not challange them at all offensively.

"We're disappointed, I certainly thought we'd score more runs today, but their lefthander did a great job. You've got to give Union credit. They came in here with a goal in mind and they pulled it off. I congratulate them."
