Three Wilson County football teams will be in action during Week Zero as the 2008 campaign is on the horizon.
Class 1A teams Watertown High and Mt. Juliet Christian Academy will each host games Friday, August 22. The Purple Tigers will entertain Upperman High while the Saints entertain Lancaster Academy out of Rutherford County. Wilson Central High will travel to Franklin County High.
One week later, five local teams will play in traditional Week One contests.
Lebanon High hosts Gallatin High at Nokes-Lasater Field while Wilson Central will welcome cross-county rival Mt. Juliet High. Friendship Christian will host Ezell Harding, Watertown will host DeKalb County and MJ Christian is idle.
Cumberland University, under the direction of third-year head coach Dewayne Alexander, will open the 2009 season on the road Saturday, August 30 as they travel to Campbellsville University, KY.
JAMBOREE ACTION -- Wilson Central High’s football program will host the second annual Justice Jamboree Saturday, Aug. 16.
Designed as an "under the lights" tune-up for teams playing in Week Zero, ten varsity programs will participate in addition to middle school and ninth grade teams.
Sponsored by local attorney Frnk Lannom, the jamboree cranks up at 3 p.m. as West Wilson Middle School squares off against Southside for two quarters of action.
Battle Ground Academy will play Donelson Christian in a varsity scrimmage at 4 p.m. followed by a ninth grade match-up between Wilson Central and Portland.
LaVergne is scheduled to play Portland in a 6 p.m. varsity scrimmage followed by Cumberland County taking on Sycamore at 7 p.m.
A pair of Wilson County teams will be featured in the final two periods as Watertown meets Davidson Academy at 7 p.m. followed by host Wilson Central going against Ensworth Adacemy in the 8 p.m. finale.
All tickets are $5 and will be available at the gate.
LEBANON HIGH will hold its annual Kick-Off Classic Thursday, Aug. 21 at Nokes-Lasater Field.
The event is hosted by the Blue Devil Football Alumni Association and sponsored by Wilson Bank & Trust.
Lebanon High and Beech will square off in a ninth grade scrimmage at 7 p.m.
The varsity Blue Devils will take on Beech at 8 p.m. for two periods.
Admission is $5 per person.
