MURFREESBORO – Like a Halloween monster that had been mistakenly left for dead, Lebanon showed signs of life Friday with a stunning 20-17 victory at Siegel in the 2008 regular season finale.
Despite the loss, the Stars (5-5) advanced to the TSSAA post season for the first time in the history of the program as Region 4, 5A’s number three seed.
The Blue Devils wrapped up an injury-plagued season 4-6 overall.
"These kids have faced adversity all season long," said LHS head coach Bobby Brown, "it’s been a tough thing but once again this team refused to quit."
Senior Robert Crudup made the most of his last varsity football game.
Almost never coming off the field, Crudup hustled and recovered a muffed punt by Siegel at the 24 to set up Lebanon’s first score, caught three passes for 97 yards and a touchdown, broke up three passes, was in on numerous tackles and set up the game-clinching field goal with a daring 18-yard punt return to deep in Siegel territory.
