TAYLORSVILLE -- “It sounded like heavy machinery crashing together,” was one neighbor’s comment about a deadly crash on Hartsville Pike late Saturday night.
Two men were killed in a two-vehicle accident on Hartsville Pike about five miles out of Lebanon. The wreck happened just before midnight and police said they think alcohol may have been a factor.
A 1991 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 26-year-old Andrew Eadler of Mt. Juliet crashed into another Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, a 1999 model, driven by Bobby Taylor of Hartsville as he was trying to make a left hand turn into Taylorsville Road.
According to authorities, 33-year-old Taylor and 30-year-old Roger Poss, a passenger in the Taylor’s vehicle died as a result of the crash.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEKCumberland senior defensive lineman Jesse Montoya has been voted the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week after playing a major role in the Bulldogs 29-26 upset of 11th-ranked Lambuth Saturday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.
Montoya registered a career-best 14 total tackles, including one for loss, in the victory over Lambuth, including eight solo stops. The win helped Cumberland claim a share of the MSC West Division championship.
Montoya ended the season with 41 tackles, including five for loss, with one sack and one pass defensed. The Bulldogs finished the 2008 regular season with a record of 6-5.
Montoya, who hails from Atlanta, Georgia, has already completed his undergraduate degree and is working toward his Masters Degree at CU.
