Obituaries

Clyde Wooden, 85
WATERTOWN -- Funeral services were held Sunday, April 25 at Hunter Funeral Home for Mr. Wooden, 85, of Alexandria.
A welder and a US Army veteran, he died Thursday, Apr. 22, 2010 at Lebanon's University Medical Center.
The son of the late Ray and Valtie Mae Robinson Wooden, he attended the Congregational Methodist Church.
Services were conducted by Rev. Jimmy Johnson, the Rev. Ben Fuston and the Rev. Javin Lawson. Interment was in Jones Cemetery.
Survivors include: wife Dorothy George Wooden of Alexandria; children Lisa Rumsey and Tony Wooden -- both of Lebanon; grandchildren Misty Wooden, Angel and Travis Wooden, Kassi and Chade Martin and Kendra Dawson; daughter-in-law Brenda Wooden of Smithville; 11 great-grandchildren; step-sons Michael (Pam) George of Alexandria, Jeff (Billie) George of Alexandria and Joel (Becky) George of Smithville; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; brother Mitchell Wooden of Watertown and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Wooden; son Clyde Michael Wooden; grandsons David and Mark Wooden; great-grandchild Kya Fakes and sister Inez Ward.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Ronaldo Whitfield
ANTIOCH -- A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at the Baha'i Faith Community Center, 1556 Bell Road, for Mr. Whitfield of Old Hickory.
He died Apr. 22, 2010.
Private burial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wilson County Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
Survivors include: his mother Martha Sue Whitfield and daughter Nyah Whitfield of Antioch.
Also surviving are siblings Miles Davis Whitfield (Kelly) of Mt. Juliet, David Glen Whitfield (April) of Murfreesboro, Donna Lashay Cole (Aaron) of Springfield, MA, along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, the late Donald Van Whitfield of Old Hickory.
Wilson County Funeral Home and Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Lea Thompson Rutland , 68
LEBANON -- Funeral services have been scheduled for 12 Noon Thursday, April 29 at the JC Hellum Funeral Home for Mrs. Rutland, 68.
Born February 10, 1942 to the late James Howard and Bertha Lea Thompson, she passed Friday, Apr. 23, 2010 at Mt. Juliet Health Care.
A longtime member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, she served as a member of the Mother Board.
Visitation is set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday with funeral service to begin at 12 Noon.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Robert Brooks. Burial will follow at Hermitage Memorial Garden.
Survivors include: her husband of 50 years Priest Rutland, Jr.; children William Howard (Patricia) Rutland, Dorothy Ann Phillips, Glenda Sue (Ike) Smith, Brenda Joyce Seay, Yolonda Faye Rutland, Darrell Wayne (Kim) Rutland and Veroncia Lyn (Michael) Carter; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; siblings Shirley (John Howard) Harris, Mary Bowman, Howard, Jr. (Debbie) Thompson, Fred (Vanessa) Thompson, Linda Allen and Roberta (Charles) Beasley; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives as well as devoted friends Mary Ann Searcy, Michelle Searcy and Janice Anter.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rutland is preceded in death by son Ronnie Priest Rutland.
Funeral services are in the care of JC Hellum Funeral Home.

Frances Ricketts Gomez, 92
WATERTOWN -- Services were held Monday, April 26 at the Hunter Funeral Home for Mrs. Gomez, 92, of Jackson, MS, formerly of Watertown.
A native of Wilson County, she died Thursday, Apr. 22, 2010 at Hospice Ministries in Jackson.
The homemaker was a graduate of Watertown High school where she was a member of the school orchestra and she attended Cumberland University.
She had lived in New Orleans from 1947 until Hurricane Katrina (2005) when she moved to Jackson, MS.
Interment was in Jones Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include: daughter Diana D. (Homer Lee) Howie of Jackson MS; grandchildren David Leon (Carrie) Howie of Jackson, MS, Sarah Frances H. (Freddy) Torres of Dallas, TX and Joy H. (Chris) Hodges of Huntsville, AL. Also surviving are great grandchildren Aubrey Noel Howie of Jackson and Caroline Grace Hodges of Huntsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leon J. Gomez and parents James Frank and Mary Ella Ricketts.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gloria Ann Owen Mitchell, 76
LEBANON -- Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Mitchell, 76, of Lebanon.
The daughter of the late Richard and Margaret Owen, she died Saturday, Apr. 24, 2010 at the University Medical Center.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Good Hope United Methodist Church and was retired from Robertshaw where she was a longtime employee.
Visitation is scheduled from 12 Noon until service on Wednesday.
Services will be conducted by Brother Edward Pugh and Jim Duke. Interment will follow at Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: children Glenda (Jim) Duke of Raleigh, NC and Randy (Teresa) Mitchell of Lebanon; siblings Harold (LaVerne) Owen of Lake Placid, FL and Lois (Edward) Overstreet of Lebanon; grandchildren Erin (Bryan) Kemp, Julie Duke and Gina Mitchell.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband Ray Mitchell.
Active pallbearers: Royce Jackson, Don Owen, Bryan Kemp, Johnny Mitchell, William Duke and Charles Mitchell. Honorary: Jerry Fyke, A.B Hedgespeth, Edward Overstreet, H.L. Winfree, Ronald L. Walls and the staff at Lebanon Health and Rehab.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Heart Association.

Marjorie Lorene Bobo McLean, 85
OLD HICKORY -- Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28 at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Lane, for Mrs. McLean, 85, of Lebanon.
She died Apr. 25, 2010. 
Visitation will be Wednesday, 6 - 8 p.m. and Thursday, 12 - 2:30 p.m., Hermitage Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted by Brother Jon Green, Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: her husband of 40 years Joseph Edward McLean; children Pat Moss (Hawkins) and Wendell Holland; grandchildren Kim (Rob) Patterson, Ken (Colleen) Brooks, Kris (Tracy) Brooks, Catherine (Jimmy) Bullock, Danielle Holland, Heather Holland; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Dorothy Otto.
Active pallbearers: Hardie Brooks, Rob Patterson, Gary Fry, Jack Lassiter, Charles Moss, Dwayne Rogers. Honorary pallbearers: Harbor Oaks Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, FL.

Mildred Neal Thompson Patton, 90
LEBANON -- Funeral services were held Monday morning, April 26 at the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Patton, 90, of Lebanon.
The daughter of the late W.F. and Nettie Haralson Neal, she died Apr. 23, 2010 in the Cedars Health Care Center.
A member of Highland Heights Church of Christ, she was a homemaker and the first woman to serve on the Wilson County Board of Education.
Services were conducted by Brother Barry Keene and Brother Mike Walters. Interment followed at the Thompson Family Cemetery.
Survivors include: son Terry (Nell) Thompson, daughter-in-law Nelda Thompson; brother James Elwin Neal; grandchildren William Christopher (Lisa) Thompson, Melissa (Mike) Gilmore, Courtney (Chris) Carter, Jonathan (April) Thompson, Molly Thompson and Andrew Thompson; great grandchildren Mark Graves, Cole Carter, Lola Carter, Emma Kathryn Gilmore and Ella Gilmore along with 16 step- grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Patton is preceded in death by husbands William Dean Thompson Sr. and Hugh E. Patton; son William Dean Thompson Jr. and sisters Hollena Lane and Walta Dean Neal.
Active pallbearers: Albert Hemontolor, Chris, Jonathan and Andrew Thompson, Raymond Allen Lane and Jimmy Neal. Honorary: Frank Neal Jr., Charles Haskins, James Ross Neal, Raymond Jones and Garland Wilson.

Ruth Lucille Brown Goostree, 81
NASHVILLE -- Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, April 20 at the Woodlawn Cemetery for Mrs. Goostree, 81, of Lebanon.
A native of Wilson County and the daughter of the late Wallace and Mattie B. Brown, she died Apr. 17, 2010 at Nashville's St. Thomas Hospital Hospice from complications following hip surgery.
She was a member of the Highland Heights Church of Christ.
Services were conducted by her minister and friend Michael Grooms.
Survivors include: her husband of 64 years William A. Goostree; children Carolyn G. (Butch) Humphreys of Mt. Juliet, Robin G. (Bill) George of Lenoir City, Mark (Shelia) Goostree of Nashville and Dan (Paige) Goostree of Lebanon.
Also surviving are sisters Geneva Loftin of Nashville and Lois Flansburg of Chattanooga.
Woodlawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William Edward Kolbe, 79
NASHVILLE -- Funeral services were held Friday, April 23 at the Spring Hill Funeral Home for Mr. Kolbe, 79, of Madison.
A member of the Madison First Baptist Church and a retired educator, Mr. Kolbe died Apr. 21, 2010.
The son of the late Clinton and Eva Kolbe, he earned an undergraduate and master's degree from Tennessee Tech University and a master's of divinity from the Golden Gate Seminary in Berkley, CA. He was a volunteer for the WPLN's Reading Library.
Services were conducted by Rev. Barry Davis. Burial was at the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include: wife Mary Ruth Kolbe; siblings John (Ann) Kolbe of Nashville, Robert (Charlotte) Kolbe of Hermitage, Emma Allison of Jackson, Gerald V. Kolbe and Dorothy K. (J.W.) Thompson -- both of Lebanon; sisters-in-law Brenda Kolbe and Hattie Ralston; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kolbe is preceded in death by his brother Charles Kolbe.
Family and friends served as active pallbearers. Honorary: Senior Co-ed Sunday School Class.

Penuel services set Wednesday

LEBANON -- Funeral services for Mr. David B. Penuel, 70, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Lyon and Rev. Frank Blair officiating.
Interment will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Penuel passed away Monday, April 26, 2010, at the University Medical Center in Lebanon. Visitation Tuesday 3-8 p.m. and Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. at Ligon & Bobo.
