Obituaries

Barbara J. Montgomery, 81
LEBANON -- Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 16 at the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Montgomery, 81, of Lebanon.
Known as “Bobbie” to her family and friends, she died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 at University Medical Center.
A homemaker, she was the daughter of the late Robert & Rubye Hobbs.
Services were conducted by with Brother Todd Elliott.
Survivors: children Ronny Taylor, Keith (Holly) Taylor, Larry (Carol Ann) Montgomery, Barry Montgomery and Becky (James Earl) Keel.
Also surviving: brother Terry (Grace Ann) Hobbs; grandchildren Patrick (Kelley) Taylor, Rhonda (Bubba) Carroll, Brian (Kelly) Baskin, Heather (Jeff) Vallett, Katie (Daniel) Petroff, Scott (Patricia) Taylor, Shane (Danielle) Taylor, T.C. Taylor, Jacob Taylor, Ashley Taylor, Braden Taylor, Chad Montgomery, Travis Montgomery and Kevin Montgomery as well as 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband Tamer Joe Montgomery; son Bill Taylor and granddaughter Stephanie Danielle Montgomery. 
Family members served as pallbearers.

Carol Moore, 63
LEBANON -- A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 at the Sellars Funeral Home on the Baddour Parkway for Mrs. Moore, 63, of Lebanon.
She died Nov. 14, 2010.
The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon from 11 a.m. until service on Wednesday.
Services will be conducted by Brother Judd Sellars.
Survivors include children:  Anita Chipman, Timmy Ashcraft, Barbara (Doug) Mayfield, Chelsea Ashcraft and Ashley Ashcraft; step-daughter Billie Abrams; siblings Betty (George) Cook and Paulette (Buddy) Moore; grandchildren Billy, Josh and Laura Mayfield plus 13 others; and sevengreat-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers:  Thomas Ford, Michael Rischbeck and James Barnett.
She is preceded in death husband Ronnie E. Moore, parents Thomas and Ethel Morgan and children’s father Charles Ashcraft.

Edna Kelley Crawford, 67
LEBANON -- Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Crawford, 67, of Lebanon.
The daughter of the late Jack & Ella Warren Kelley, she died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer.
A member of Gladeville Baptist Church, she was a retired Nurse Tech with Hospice and Home Health Care Services.
Visitation Wednesday from 12 Noon until funeral services.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Andre’ Dugger. Interment follows at Barton’s Creek Cemetery.
Survivors: husband of 51 years Martin Crawford and daughter Cindy (Mike) Wilson.
Also surviving: brothers Lynn (Gail) Kelley and Ed (Pam) Kelley; sisters Jimmie Sue (James) Johnson, Ruby (Rick) Pinson, Margie (Jerry) Maddux, Peggy (Ray) Neely and Betty (Ronnie) Spry; grandchildren: Stephanie (Chad) Linville, Christopher (Lyndsey) Wilson and  Matthew (Christy) Wilson; great grandchildren: Jackson, Liam, Conner, Gracie and Victoria; sister-in-law Linda Thompson; along with loving nieces and nephews.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Floyd Williamson, 90
DIERKS, AR -- Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning, Nov. 16 at Dierks Church of Christ, for Mr. Williamson, 90, of Mt. Juliet.
Formerly of Arkansas, he died died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010.
A member of the Church of Christ, he was an avid hunter.
Interment was at Dierks Cemetery.
Survivors include: wife of 69 years Deane Anderson Williamson; son Wayne (Betty) Williamson; sisters Faye Stark and LaVaughn White; grandchildren Deana Driver and Mark Williamson; great-grandchildren Gabrielle and Michael Driver and Ellen and John Williamson.
Mr. Williamson was the son of the late, William Levi and Fannie Daniel Williamson. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Ruth Sharp, Ada Williamson and Loyd Williamson.
Family and friends served as active pallbearers.

Helen Estelle Williams Root, 85
OLD HICKORY -- Graveside services were held Saturday afternoon, Nov. 13 at Hermitage Memorial Gardens for Mrs. Root, 85 of Mt. Juliet.
Born Oct. 16, 1925 in Smith County, she died Nov. 11, 2010 in Hermitage.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Survivors include: son Earl (Teresa) White; grandson Christopher (Stacy) White; step-granddaughters Tammy Potts and Tiffany Stroupe; step-great-grandchildren Jayce, Jessica, Ethan and Kelly; sister Mary (Dewitt) Stickle of Gordonsville; and brother John Robertson of Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy Williams and Sadie Duke; and brothers A.J., Henry and James.

Herbert Dale Taylor, 76
PILOT GROVE, MO -- Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the Meisenheimer Funeral Chapel in Pilot Grove, MO for Mr. Taylor, 76, of Old Hickory.
Born June 25, 1934 in Almena, KS, he died Nov. 11, 2010.
Interment will follow the service at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in Japan during the Korean War, hed
Mr. Taylor was a general contractor, building homes was his love as was the Tennessee Vols.
In 1957, he married Marion Sturtivant and on Dec. 20, 1975, he married Susan Barron.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his grandson, Ryan McCarthy; brother Walter and sister Avis.
Survivors include: wife Susan Barron Taylor of Old Hickory; daughters Tracy (Robert) McCarthy of Brentwood and Shelly (Tim) Hanson of Cambridge, NE. Also surviving: grandsons Keith and Daniel Berry; Taylor and Evan McCarthy; sisters Dixie Green, Judy Tadlock, Gloria Egge, Zona (Ron) Fritz and Nancy Fry.

Howell Curtis Mabry, 69
LEBANON -- Curt Mabry passed away Sunday, Nov, 14, 2010 at age 69.
A memorial service, conducted by Brother Kevin Medlin, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at the Sellars Funeral Chapel on the Baddour Parkway.
The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 5 p.m. until service on Thursday.
Survivors include: wife of 46 years Barbara Smith Mabry; children Tracy (James) Tipton and Adrian Mabry; grandchildren: Steven and Stacy Tipton, and Emma Mabry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents Walter and Sadie McClanahan Mabry, brother Robert “Bob” Mabry, and sister Mary Jo Starnes.

James C. Bennett, Sr., 89
NASHVILLE -- Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 16 at Ellis Funeral Home for Mr. Bennett, 89, of Mt. Juliet.
A decorated veteran of World War II, Mr. Bennett died Nov. 14, 2010.
Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include: children James C. (Carlene) Bennett, Jr., Mona Bennett, Donna L. (Ronnie) Arndt and Regina Bennett.
Also surviving: siblings Billy Ray Bennett, James Wesley Bennett, Dorothy Biggerstaff, Betty Page, Margie Bennett and Linda Walker; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mr. Bennett is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Toney Bennett.

John Shannon Nichols, 38
LEBANON -- Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the Cross Style Church, 104 Trinity Lane, for Mr. Nichols, 38, of Lebanon.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he died Nov. 12, 2010.
A construction worker, he attended Cross Style Church.
Services will be conducted by Dr. Stephen Manley.
Interment will be in the McKinney-Nichols Family Cemetery near Mt. Vernon, KY
Survivors include: daughter Sara Irene Nichols of Cincinnati, OH; father and step-mother John Thomas and Rhonda Nichols of Bowling Green, KY; brothers Raymond Nichols and Dan Tipton of Cincinnati, OH.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ada Irene Waldon Nichols.

Mattie C. McGowan, 85
LEBANON -- A Celebration of Life will be conducted 12 Noon, Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Garden of Prayer Tabernacle, 1015 Bluebird Road, for Mrs. McGowan, 85, of Lebanon.
Born January 3, 1925 in Enterprise, AL to the late Lela Belcher and Curt Brown, she died Nov. 12, 2010 at Lebanon's University Medical Center.
Mrs. McGowan worked in the public school system for 33 years and retired at the age of 75 from Sam Houston Elementary School.
A longtime member of the Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church, she served as church secretary, choir member, member of the Mother’s Board, kitchen committee, and in many other auxiliaries until her health failed her.
A family and friend visitation is planned Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Cedars of Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church, 201 Beard Ave., and from 11 a.m. until the service Thursday at the Garden of Prayer Tabernacle.
Interment will follow at Mt. Lebanon Memorial Gardens.
She leaves to cherish her memory children Jerry McGowan, Joseph M. (Joe Mike) McGowan and Clara F McGowan -- all of Lebanon.
Also surviving are grandchildren Maurice McGowan, Cheryl (Robert) Knight, Mario McGowan, Chequita McGowan, Tre McGowan, Marcus Kirkendoll -- all of Lebanon, Dereathia Neuble and Curt McGowan -- both of Hartsville, Daryll McGowan of Dickson, Shelby Turner of Hendersonville, Mark Clemmons of Atlanta, GA, Reginald Robinson of Asheville, NC and Antonio McGowan of Oklahoma City, OK; as well as 22 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; five sisters, three precede her in death (Annie C Wilkerson, Willie M. Terry, and Clara Brown Rowe) Ola Mae Rivers of Newark, NJ and Gritha Lee Hawkins of Enterprise, AL; two brothers, one preceded her in death (William C Brown) and James W Brown of Enterprise, AL; four sisters-in-laws Ann Brown, Enterprise, AL, Pauline Brown, Tallahassee FL, Irene Griffin, Detroit MI and Juanita Andrews Lebanon; two daughter-in-laws, one preceded her in death (Dianthia Y. McGowan) and Patricia McGowan of Lebanon; devoted niece Annette Jones of Enterprise, AL and devoted nephew Bruce Andrews of Murfreesboro.
She had several play children and several special friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGowan is preceded in death by husband George M. McGowan Sr.; three children who died before birth and sons Jimmy E McGowan and George M. McGowan, Jr.

Michael Dies
ALEXANDRIA -- A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27 at the New Hope Baptist Church in DeKalb County for Mr. Dies of Auburntown.
He died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 following a brief illness.
His devotion to his family was outweighed only by his devotion to his Lord. Although a licensed Minister, he chose a pulpit in his everyday surroundings.
A self-employed contractor, he ministered to all he met; selflessly and without recompense.  Michael considered his true job to be a husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Dies was an avid fisherman and enjoyed writing.
Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
Services will be conducted by Brother Ronald Smith with David Merchoff and Mark Garrison leading the Celebration with memories and song.
Survivors include: his wife of 36 years, Laura Gail Dies; Children Christopher (Christy) Dies, Keith (Amanda) Dies -- all of Alexandria, Jason (Jeri) Dies of Lebanon and Jamie Gail (Jeremy) Haynes of Chapel Hill.
Also surviving are grandchildren: Chloe and Mikayla Dies; Ethan, Haley, Caleb, and Autumn Dies; Landon and Allyson Faye Haynes; siblings Judy (Paul) White, Jimmy Dies, Kirby Dies, Ricky (Phyllis) Dies, Andrew (Pamela) Dies, Roger Dies, Chrissy Dies, Billy Dies, Steve Dies, Frank Dies, Tina Dies, Berta (Steve) Foster, and Leon (Teresa) Dies.
He is preceded in death by parents Lewis Thurston "Pete" and Wilberta Murray Dies.

MT. JULIET -- Mr. Pitcock, 52, of Mt. Juliet died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010.
A member of the Mt. Juliet Missionary Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Bennett Pitcock, Jr. and Betty Louise Farris Pitcock. 
Survivors include: siblings David (Debra) Pitcock, Steve (Sandra) Pitcock, Fay Shutt, Sheila Pitcock, Sammy (Cheryl) Pitcock and Vicky (Danny) Marlin.

Vesta Oldham Locke, 94
MT. JULIET -- Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19 at Mt. Juliet Church of Christ for Mrs. Locke, 94, of Mt. Juliet.
Former longtime employee of the U.S. Postal Service, she died Nov. 15, 2010.
The oldest member of the Mt. Juliet Church of Christ in age and tenure, Mrs. Locke, also worked at Lakeshore Retirement Center.
Visitation Wednesday at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet from 5 – 8 p.m.; Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. at Mt. Juliet Church of Christ and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Services will be conducted with Brother Bill Speight, Pastor Gregory Locke and Pastor Jim Locke officiating.
Interment to follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
