Business Expo, Sales Tax Holiday on tap this weekend

Plenty of shoppers are sure to be on hand Friday for the Lebanon/Wilson County Chamber of Commerce and Lebanon Premium Outlets Business Extravaganza, showcasing many local businesses, which also coincides with the beginning of the sixth annual Sales Tax Holiday.

Alley new FCS volleyball coach

LEBANON -- Randy Alley has been hired as the new volleyball coach at Friendship Christian School. Alley, a veteran volleyball coach who previously held varsity positions at Cumberland County and Stone Memorial High School, replaces longtime FCS coach Nancy Reed.

Reed stepped down from her teaching and coaching positions at Friendship and is working with the Adult Education Program in the Wilson County School system. Alley holds a teaching position at Wilson Central High School.

FCS wins golf match

MURFREESBORO -- Friendship Christian School won a tri-team golf match held at Champions Run Golf Course Thursday, Aug. 4. Team scores (for 9 holes) were: Friendship Christian 173; Murfreesboro Central 192 and Eagleville 222.

The low score for the match, 37, was turned in by Friendship Christian freshman Bo Gwynne.

Scoring leaders for Friendship Christian included: Noah Stewart - 45; Sam Gatlin - 45 and Austin Godwin - 46.

Taxpayer won't be stuck after Superspeedway closes

Safeguards put in place more than a decade ago are protecting Wilson County taxpayers in the wake of Wednesdays announcement concerning the murky future of the Nashville Superspeedway. Delaware-based Dover Motorsports, Inc. has notified NASCAR that it will not seek any 2012 race sanctions for the local facility.
