One-car accident claims life

Memorial Day ended in tragedy for Gregory L. Beard, 48, of Lebanon, who was pronounced deceased on the scene of a one-vehicle crash on Monday evening.

Trooper William Bennett said in his report that Beard was a passenger in a 1995 Ford Taurus driven by Alexis A. Harris, 42, of Mt. Juliet. The vehicle was traveling westbound on Coles Ferry Pike in Lebanon when, for unknown reasons, it traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a culvert.

Two charged with animal cruelty

Two Gallatin residents were charged in Lebanon with cruelty to animals after authorities reportedly found three dogs locked inside a parked vehicle at Lebanon Premium Outlets shopping center on Monday.

The two people charged were Phyllis Borden and Shirley Borden, both of Gallatin.

MJ football holds free camp

Over 200 young boys participated in last weeks annual Mt. Juliet Golden Bear football camp. Free to all, the camp ran Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday morning on the MJHS campus.

We get so much support from the community, this is one small way the Bears can give back, said assistant coach Trey Perry, who was directing the 2013 camp in the place of his father, Roger.

WHS hoops honored

On Tuesday, May 28, District 17 State Sen. Mae Beavers and District 46 State Rep. Mark Pody presented the Watertown High School boys basketball team and head coach Matt Bradshaw with a Tennessee Senate Joint Resolution for their outstanding season.

The Purple Tigers finished 30-4 and reached the TSSAA state tournament for the first time in the history of the program while claiming both the District 8A and Region 4A tournament titles.
