Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday July 20 at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mr. Parks, 80, of Lebanon. A U.S. Navy veteran, he died Thursday morning, July 18, 2013 following an extended illness.
Born October 25, 1932 to the late Elmer Sr. and Bertha Collins Parks, Mr. Parks served aboard the USS Princeton as a helicopter mechanic during the Korean War.
The City of Mt. Juliet's Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting Splash Day / Grand Opening of Avas Splash Pad Saturday, July 27.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Splash Day activities following from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The free event will consist of free play in the splash pad, inflatable water slides, an inflatable slip-n-slide, a dunking booth, a water gun area and more.
Concessions will be available for purchase. Additionally, Vanderbilt University will be onsite donating basic first aid if necessary.

Wilson County Schools officials were tight-lipped Thursday after a closed meeting was held with law enforcement and others regarding the traffic problems that have plagued the new Lebanon High School since opening in August 2012.
The meeting was held at the school systems Central Office on Stumpy Lane where officials shared suggestions on how to tackle the issue.
