Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 5 at the Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon for Mr. Helm, 64, of Lebanon. Known as "Big Dog" to his friends, the US Army veteran and Bronze Star winner died Sept. 3, 2013.

A private memorial service is being planned for Mrs. Patchen, 63, of Lebanon. A homemaker and former school bus driver, she died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at University Medical Center following an extended illness.

Born Oct. 1, 1949 in Syracuse, NY, Mrs. Patchen was the daughter of the late Clarence G. Stanton and Jill Elizabeth Sipfle Stanton.

CU hires Greene for compliance

Position mandated by NCAA
Cumberland University Director of Athletics Ron Pavan announced the hiring of former CU football player nd graduate assistant Sam Greene as the departments Compliance Coordinator.

Greene will begin his new assignment Monday, Sept. 9 and will help guide the athletic program through the complex NCAA rule book as Cumberland works toward Division II membership.

The Maryville native was a four-year starter at all three offensive line spots for the Bulldogs, playing in 35 career contests with 31 starts. He was a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete and earned Mid-South Conference Scholar-Athlete accolades three times. Cumberland posted a 26-17 record during his four seasons, including 8-3 in 2010 and 7-3 in 2011.
