PORTSMOUTH, OH Freshman Josh Armstrong scored a pair of goals and freshman Elliot Goodwin added two assists as Cumberland overcame a slow start for a 4-1 victory over Shawnee State in mens soccer action Saturday.

PORTSMOUTH, OH Freshman Josh Armstrong scored a pair of goals and freshman Elliot Goodwin added two assists as Cumberland overcame a slow start for a 4-1 victory over Shawnee State in mens soccer action Saturday.

Senior Mark Harrison put the Bulldogs (2-6-1, 1-1-0 Mid-South) ahead with a goal in the 53rd minute and Armstrong netted his first goal on an assist from Goodwin less than two minutes later.

The Bears (2-5-0, 0-2-0) cut the deficit in half in the 76th minute with Connor Shermans header off a throw from Danny Parsons, but CU responded down the stretch to put the match away.

JACKSON, Miss. -- Quarterback Reed Gurchiek accounted for 324 yards of total offense and two touchdowns as Cumberland picked up its first win of the season with a 41-31 victory Saturday over Belhaven University at H.T. Newell Field.

CU GIVES SUBER 1st CAREER WIN
JACKSON, Miss. Quarterback Reed Gurchiek accounted for 324 yards of total offense and two touchdowns as Cumberland picked up its first win of the season with a 41-31 victory Saturday over Belhaven University at H.T. Newell Field.

The victory marked the first of head coach Donnie Subers career.

Michael Nwokoji added 191 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries and Mario Hill helped the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0 Mid-South West) run out the clock with five carries for 33 yards in the fourth quarter.
