18 locals head to state wrestling tourney

WCHS leads pack with 13 individuals
Led by a deep contingent from Wilson Central, some 18 local grapplers have qualified for the TSSAA Individual Wrestling Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Williamson County Ag Expo Center in Franklin.
    
Fresh from a runner-up finish last weekend in the State Duals, Wilson Central ran away with the Region 7-AAA title at Clarksville Northwest and will send a school record 13 Wildcats to the state -- six as region champs.

CU baseball home opener canceled

Cumberland University’s home opener scheduled for Wednesday against Union University has been canceled due to inclement weather in the area. No makeup date has been set at this time.

Cumberland (2-2) and Union were scheduled to play Tuesday originally but that was pushed back a day because of extremely cold weather and the possibility of precipitation. Wednesday’s weather has turned even worse, with the forecast calling for freezing rain and possibly snow throughout the southern middle Tennessee area.

The Bulldogs host a three-game series this weekend against Taylor University beginning Friday at 2 p.m. at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium.
