"I know camps have been scheduled for June, so I’m anxious to get to know the girls and get a feel for what we do well and things that might need improving. I’ve always known Lebanon as a good, competitive basketball program, and I really like the hometown feel of the community," Johnson said in a telephone interview Thursday.
Johnson was a member of the 2006 Southeastern Conference Good Works Team for her efforts in the community while a student-athlete at Ole Miss.
In high school she played for present Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Insell and helped lead the Shelbyville Eaglettes to state titles as a sophomore and a junior.
"This is a great hire for Lebanon High," Coach Insell said Thursday, "you just can’t beat Ashley. She is such a competitor, an over achiever, a very hard worker."
Coach Johnson comes to Lebanon from Desoto County High School, Mississippi where she has been a teacher and coach for two years.
She will teach biology and physical science at Lebanon.
