Authorities investigate string of church burglaries
Another burglary was reported Friday at The Sanctuary located at 465 Franklin Road in Lebanon, with suspects targeting the same type of items. Bowen noted musical instruments and audio equipment were stolen.
Following the two reported burglaries, Bowen said officers began checking local churches for signs of forced entry. During the search, officers found suspects had broken into a third church.
After we got the second call, we started checking all the churches and we found the last one, Bowen said.
That burglary took place at Grace Bible Church, located at 255 Franklin Road, and Bowen indicated audio/visual equipment was stolen from that church as well.
We recovered some physical evidence at the scene of the thefts, he said.
LPD is investigating the three incidents, and he indicated other churches were targeted over the weekend in Wilson County.
Det. Ricky Knight of the Wilson County Sheriffs Department said they received two reports of burglaries at local churches on Friday, April 20. One such burglary was reported at Bethel Church of Christ, at 2427 Sparta Pike.
Knight said there were no signs of forced entry, but noted the church was entered and a set of keys was stolen.
Another burglary was reported at Vine Baptist Church located at 9054 Murfreesboro Road, which Knight said most likely took place on Thursday, April 19.
They stole a set of speakers, there were signs of forced entry, the detective said.
The Sheriffs Department issued an alert Tuesday stating that several churches had been burglarized and encouraged anyone to report suspicious activity to either the LPD or WCSD.
We are investigating and working together, comparing notes, Knight said, referring to their cooperation with the LPD on these particular cases.
Knight said anyone with information on these crimes should call the LPD at 444-2323 or the Sheriffs Department at 444-1459.
