Golf enthusiasts are encouraged to Bash it for Bishop this Thursday at Pine Creek in Mt. Juliet.
Funds raised from the tournament will benefit local middle school student, Bishop Mikaelian, who has battled an inoperable brain tumor since early 2009. Bishop endured 15 months of chemotherapy, which seemed to stunt growth but did not shrink the 3 centimeter tumor, according to her biography on caringbridge.org.
Now 12-years-old, Bishop deals with reoccurring chronic pneumonia and has been hospitalized for it over 30 times in less than three and a half years. Her left vocal cord is paralyzed and she has surgery semi-annually to plump her cords in order to speak. Bishop is also unable to eat or drink by mouth and is fed through a g-tube in her stomach.
Tournament sponsors Michael Barrett, of Angel Healthcare Staffing, and his brother, Joe Barrett, heard about Bishops battle through Pine Creek employee Paul Lannom and were both eager to help.
This is a personal thing that we were moved to do. It impressed us that the Pine Creek staff was so concerned. We couldnt say anything except let us be a part of it, Michael said.
Joe added that anytime you can help someone else you should. It is a good cause.
Registration for the 1:30 p.m. shotgun start begins at noon. Entry fee is $50 per player and includes goodie bags, a barbecue lunch before play and the change to win $1,000 in prize money.
Participants can also register online at www.pinecreekgolf.net under the tournaments tab. Pine Creek Golf Course is located at 1835 Logue Rd. in Mt. Juliet.
