Dear Ken: Did swashbuckling cinema star Errol Flynn have any children?

He had four children. Born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, the son of a biologist-professor, Flynn was married three times. By first wife actress Lili Damita he had a son, Sean, a photographer who disappeared in Cambodia in 1970 during the Vietnam War and was presumed dead. By second wife Nora Eddington he had daughters Deirdre and Rory, and with actress Patrice Wymore, he had daughter Arnella Roma, who died in 1998. Flynn died of a heart attack in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1959 at the age of 50. Daughter Rory has penned a book about her father titled “The Baron of Mulholland,” and her son, Sean Flynn, recently appeared as Johnse Hatfield in the miniseries “The Hatfields and McCoys” and co-stars in the new film “Return of the Killer Shrews.”

Dear Ken: Please tell me something about David Giuntoli of the TV series “Grimm.” 

Born in Milwaukee, Wis., Giuntoli, 32 grew up in St. Louis. Discovered in a bar, he made his TV debut in the MTV reality shows “Road Rules” and “The Challenge” in 2003. In 2007 he guested on “Ghost Whisperer” and “Veronica Mars,” and a year later played Jacob Cassidy in five episodes of “Privileged.” After numerous other TV spots and a few film roles, he got the nod to star as Nick Burkhardt in “Grimm” as the Portland, Ore., homicide detective who has the ability to see supernatural creatures. He describes the series as “CSI” meets “X-Files.”

Dear Ken: I was watching the first Christopher Reeve “Superman” movie recently. Who played his Earth mother, Martha Kent? 

Playing Ma Kent in the 1978 film was Portland, Maine, native Phyllis Thaxter, now 90. A Broadway actor in the 1930s, she went to Hollywood in 1944 to make movies and by the mid-1950s was mainly working in TV. She was married for many years to James T. Aubrey Jr., who was president of CBS-TV. When “Superman” was being made in 1978, Thaxter was the mother-in-law of the film’s producer, Ilya Salkind.

Dear Ken: What year did Percy Sledge have his big hit song “When a Man Loves a Woman”?

R&B and soul singer Sledge hit the top of the charts with that tune, which he originally wrote as “Why Did You Leave Me Baby,” in 1966. Sledge, a native of Leighton, Ala., recorded the song in Sheffield, Ala. Last October, Sledge lent his voice to Cliff Richard’s album “Soulicious“ and also appeared with the British pop singer during his concert tour. The former hospital orderly, 70, continues to perform in concert.
