‘Super 8’s Chandler grew up in Georgia
Dear Ken: Besides “Friday Night Lights,“ what other TV series has Kyle Chandler, who stars as Deputy Jackson Lamb in the movie “Super 8,” been a cast member of?
Kyle Martin Fitzgerald Chandler, 45, who was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and grew up in Loganville, Ga., was a star of “Homefront” and “Early Edition” and appeared in several episodes of “Tour of Duty” and “The Lyon’s Den.” Among his movie credits are “King Kong” and “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” He and his wife, a television writer, have two daughters.
Dear Ken: What ever happened to the singing group the Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, who had a hit in the 1970s with “Too Late To Turn Back Now”?
The family soul group from Florida was composed of brothers Carter and Eddie Cornelius and their sister Rose. Later, another sister, Billie Jo, joined the trio. They first hit in 1971 with the tune “Treat Her Like a Lady.” The quartet split in 1976 when Carter joined a black Hebrew sect in Miami and changed his name to Prince Gideon Israel. Carter died in 1991 after a heart attack at 43. Eddie became a pastor and sings, produces and writes Christian music. Rose continues to perform with various groups.
Dear Ken: What can you tell us about Erica Durance, who plays Lois Lane on TV’s “Smallville”?
Durance, 33, was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where her dad was a truck driver and her mother a librarian. The family also had a turkey farm. Later she moved to Vancouver to pursue acting and first made her mark in low-budget horror films and as a guest on sci-fi TV shows. Last month she began work in Toronto on a new series, for Canadian television, “Saving Hope,” a medical drama.
Dear Ken: When did character actor Edgar Buchanan die? He played Uncle Joe on “Petticoat Junction” in the 1960s.
Buchanan died in 1979 at age 76 from a stroke complicated by pneumonia. Born in Humansville, Mo., he became a dentist like his father. In his mid-30s he left dentistry, gave the practice to his wife and began a long career as a professional actor. He starred in two other TV series, “Judge Roy Bean” and “Cade’s County.” The chubby-faced and gravelly-voiced Buchanan worked in about 100 movies including “The Sea of Grass,” “Cheaper by the Dozen,” “Lust for Gold,” “Shane,” “Tammy Tell Me True,” “Ride the High Country,” “Move Over, Darling” and “Benji.”
