While the board approved fundraising ventures for the new LHS facilities, they also approved a contract with Cumberland University to allow the schools football program to utilize Nokes-Lasater Field at the old LHS starting with the 2012 season.

Zone 1 Board Member Vikki Adkins and Zone 5 Board Member Greg Lasater voted against the contract with Cumberland.

The board also declared timber adjacent to Rutland Elementary School as surplus, which is required by the boards policies before the timber is removed and auctioned.

The timber must be removed by Sept. 1 and once removed, work can begin preparing the property for a new Pre-K through 2nd grade school building to be built next to Rutland Elementary.

Last month, the board and Wilson County Commission approved the issuing of $35 million in bonds to expand Rutland Elementary and West Elementary as well as West Wilson Middle School.
