PULASKI -- Lebanon native Cody Ferrell collected two hits and two RBIs and Mike Mandarino tossed a complete game for the victory, as 7th-ranked Cumberland earned a doubleheader split with a 7-5 victory in the second game Saturday against Martin Methodist at Sam Davis Park.
The Bulldogs (17-12, 6-3 TranSouth) dropped the first game 3-2 after losing Fridays opening 7-5.
The RedHawks (19-12, 3-3) scored all three runs in the opener with two outs, posting three straight singles in the sixth inning to plate the winning run.
MMC tied the second game with a single and home run with two outs in the fifth before Cumberland scored twice in the seventh, taking advantage of a Martin Methodist two-base error to start the inning.
CU managed just four hits in the opener against MMC pitching, including one earned run and three hits in six innings by starter Josh Brown (5-3). He walked five and struck out four before Brock Glass got the final three outs for his second save in two games of the series.
Keith Kirby (2-3) was again the tough-luck loser, allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout in six innings.
Mandarino (5-1) endured on the mound in the second game, giving up five runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Cory Urquhart, Nick Sydnor and Ferrell each posted two hits for the Bulldogs and Sydnor scored twice in the victory.
MMC starter Steven Dodson (2-4) allowed five runs in the second inning but then kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard until the seventh inning. He gave up 10 hits, walked five and struck out three.
