Officials with the Lebanon / Wilson County Chamber of Commerce have issued an advisory to its membership in regard to a possible scam involving an out-of-state sales effort.

According to administrators at Lebanon High School a firm calling itself "Scholarship Calendars" of Bluefield / Tazewell, VA is soliciting advertising via telephone for a 2013 LHS spring sports pocket schedule.

Part of the sales pitch includes promises that monies generated would go back to the Blue Devil athletic department.

"No one at Lebanon High has had any conversations with this bunch," LHS athletic director Darian Brown said Wednesday afternoon. "No contract exists between us and this company. In fact, we're finding out they did the same thing this past fall."

The firm, reportedly headed by Philip and Jane Lester of Bluefield, VA, is said to be charging $300 for a small ad and $500 for a larger ad.

"We have a world of wonderful supporters out there in the community," Brown said, "I'd hate to see anyone get taken by this sort of thing."
