Candidates qualify for cities elections

The Cartmell Scholarship to Vanderbilt University will be awarded. Winston Freeman Davis and April Wade are on the ballot to be selected for the scholarship.

According to the Wilson County Election Commission website at www.wilsonelections.com, candidates for the scholarship must be residents of Lebanon. The funds for it are administered by Vanderbilt University, and only those eligible to vote in Lebanon elections may vote for the scholarship recipient.

In District 2 on the Mt. Juliet City Commission, incumbent Commissioner Will Sellers will face three challengers. They are Pat Boyer, James Maness and Richard Moses.

District 4 incumbent Commissioner Jim Bradshaw is seeking re-election. He was elected on Aug. 5 to represent District 11 on Wilson County Commission. He will face opposition from Richard A. (Dick) Kasnick for the District 4 seat in Mt. Juliet.

Watertown City Council has three seats on the ballot this time. Seeking re-election are Councilor Jim Amero and Councilor Brandon Howard. Also running are Kristie B. Cantrell, Jimmy L. Foster, and former city councilors Jimmy Locke and Jim Mahoney.

Candidates have until noon, Thursday, Aug. 26 to withdraw from the race. If you wish to register to vote in the Nov. 2 election, you have until Monday, Oct. 4 to do so.

Also on the ballot will be Governor, State Representative from Districts 46 and 57, State Senate District 17 and U.S. House of Representative from District 5 and 6.
