A letter was sent to Lebanon City Council members asking them to support an ordinance for the Cumberland Center Development District at the Tuesday, Feb. 4, regular meeting.

The letter was sent by Larry Frankenbach, vice president of Vastland Realty, developer of the site.

Mayor Philip Craighead said that “In discussions with highly sought after national level site selection executives and hospitality consultants, I have been told that they are watching this issue very closely and are very supportive of our actions. Upon passage, this elevates the City of Lebanon on that list of most attractive future locations.”

Frankenbach wrote in his letter that councilors will have the opportunity to make a “history making vote for the progress of Lebanon” at Tuesday’s meeting.

“Your vote in favor of this ordinance will send a signal to site selection executives across the country that Lebanon wants to separate itself and rise above other markets that are competing for new retail, hotels, restaurants and new office developments,” he said. “With your approval to establish the Cumberland Center Development District, the path to securing the participation of Wilson County in the plan will be open. As (County) Mayor (Randall) Hutto said in a recent work session, after you approve this ordinance, he would present the invitation to participate to the Budget Committee and then to the Wilson County Commissioners.

“The best of all options for Wilson County and for Lebanon would then be achievable! The County Commissioners have already said that an events center is needed in Wilson County. There are so many people that believe that Cumberland Center is the best location for that facility! You can make it happen,” Frankenbach said.
