Charlie Daniels to perform at 2010 Wilson County Fair
Wilson County’s own Charlie Daniels and The Charlie Daniels Band will perform in concert at the award-winning 2010 Wilson County Fair which will be held Aug. 13-21 at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center/Wilson County Fairgrounds.
The concert is sponsored by Burchett Ford Lincoln Mercury.
The CDB concert set for Monday, Aug. 16, will be held in the Exposition Center and will feature some of the band’s award winning music including rock, country, bluegrass, blues and gospel with a great Southern touch. Daniels, a long-time Wilson County resident, has always been known for giving back to the community where he lives and has chosen Joseph’s Storehouse Food Ministry as the charity to benefit from this concert.
Joseph's Storehouse Food Ministry of Lebanon distributes food to needy families in Wilson County. Joseph's Storehouse Food Ministry started in 1999 giving food to 22 families and in 2009 distributed 2.3 million pounds of food to local residents. Admission to the fair on Aug. 16 will be increased by $1, with the additional $1 going to Joseph’s Storehouse Food Ministry. Canned or non-perishable food will be collected for Joseph’s Storehouse Food Ministry at all gates to the fair.
“We are so honored to have The Charlie Daniels Band for this year’s Wilson County Fair concert as it will greatly benefit our fair as well as ones in need,” said Hale Moss, president of the Wilson County Fair. “Charlie has a big heart and this exemplifies his strong desire to help the county where he lives. Charlie and his wife, Hazel, are great citizens of our community. We are also very fortunate to have Burchett Ford Lincoln Mercury sponsor this event, as they have done now for three years.”
During Charlie Daniels’ 50+ year career, he has scored hits on rock, country, pop and Christian charts and was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on Jan. 19, 2008 and in 2009 into the Musicians Hall of Fame. He has received numerous awards from the Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music, the Gospel Music Association and a Grammy. His signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” topped both country and pop charts, bringing him international acclaim.
Daniels’ energy and strong support for the nation is evidenced by his many accolades. His volunteer spirit, support of the troops and down to earth philosophy exemplifies him as a true American patriot, a spokesperson for the fair said.
