ALBEMARLE, NC -- Funeral services have been scheduled Saturday, May 7 at the Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle, NC for Mr. Harkey, 76, of Brush Creek.
Formerly of Locust, NC, the US Army veteran passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Alive Hospice in Nashville.
Born April 22, 1935, in Stanley County, NC, he was the son of the late Daniel and Dora Bell Burris Harkey.
A member of Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church in Locust, NC, he and his wife moved to Middle Tennessee after he retired from Enterprise Rendering Co. in Oakboro, NC to be near his only daughter and grandchildren.
He worked part-time for Mueller Industries in Carthage and attended the Lebanon First Presbyterian Church for the past 11 years.
Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Presbyterian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, Lebanon, Wednesday between the hours of 3-7 p.m.
Survivors include: his wife of 56 years Aileen Lambert Harkey; daughter Tammy Harkey Cagle of Antioch; grandchildren Wesley and Courtney Cagle of Antioch; sisters Shirley Paige of Locust, NC, Beulah Sides of Albemarle, NC and Frances Tucker of Lakeland, FL; brothers Junior Harkey of Concord, NC, Grady Harkey of Albemarle, NC and Bill Harkey of Evington, VA.
He was preceded in death by brothers Fred and Theodore Harkey.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Alive Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
