No one was injured in a collision between a train and a semi truck in Lebanon Tuesday afternoon after the truck driver reportedly said the train did not sound its horn as it crossed Briskin Lane.

Lebanon Police Officer Steve Green said a Peterbilt semi truck driven by Douglas Vonier, 29, of Vienna, Ga., was traveling west on Briskin Lane when it was struck by a Nashville & Eastern train traveling north.

“According to Vonier, he heard no horn from the train,” Green said. “There are just crossing signs that basically act as yield signs.” There are no crossing arms or signals at the crossing.

“The driver was OK and the engineer was OK,” Green said. “If it was just 15 or 20 feet earlier, the truck driver may have been seriously hurt.”

Green said the truck had Iowa plates but believed it to be based out of Georgia. He noted the truck is owned by TMC Transportation and was heading to Cumberland Drywall at 611 Railroad Ave. in Lebanon.

The accident remains under investigation as Green said he was looking into the laws relating to these types of railroad crossings and when a train was required to sound its horn.

However, he noted Vonier failed to yield at the crossing signs but said no citations would be issued.
