By SABRINA GARRETT The Lebanon City Council presented a proclamation to Betsy Evins Jennings, daughter of Cracker Barrel Founder Danny Evins, naming a portion of Hartmann Drive in her father’s honor. Prior to the presentation, Evins’ longtime friend, Jack Lowery, proposed that the council rename the entire stretch of Hartmann Drive and South Hartmann Drive Evins Lowe Parkway – after Evins and Tommy Lowe, who helped create the Cracker Barrel concept in 1969. “There is no reason to do just part of it. Both Danny and Tommy were instrumental in founding Cracker Barrel. I’ve talked to his family and Danny would have wanted it this way,” Lowery said of his friend who passed away in January 2012. Ward 4 Councilor Joe Hayes supported the proposal, saying that Cracker Barrell Old Country Stores are present in 42 of the 50 states. “I am all for it,” he said. Ward 6 Councilor Kathy Warmath added, “That is an honor that should be given.” Lowery said he plans to appear before the council again in two weeks to see what steps must be taken to make his proposal a reality. |
