LEBANON -- Cumberland senior Aaron Wilkerson improved to 7-0 on the season with a sparkling 10-0 shutout over TranSouth Conference leading Union University Friday at Stockton Field.
The seven-inning contest found the Bulldogs striking for three runs in the bottom of the first on a pair of monsterous home runs by Tommy Winegardner and Cory Farris.
"The early runs gave us some confidence and momentum," said CU head coach Woody Hunt. "We played well, and of course Wilkerson was on. He's just a machine, people don't get very many good swings against him."
Wilkerson extended his consecutive shutout innings streak to 48 and one-third. He struck out seven Union hitters in seven innings and allowed just three hits.
Cumberland pounded out 13 hits against Union pitching -- two each from David Fanshawe, Winegardner, Farris and T.J. Murphy.
CU improved to 7-3 in the TranSouth Conference while Union slipped to 8-2. The two teams will hook up Saturday for a 12 Noon twinbill at Stockton Feld. Live radio coverage begins at 11:40 a.m. on WANT FM-98.9.
