CU returns home December 14, taking on former TranSouth Conference member Bethel University in a doubleheader with the women. The Bulldogs face Belhaven University and Concordia-Selma in another tournament at Dalton State College before Christmas.
Cumberland returns to conference action with home games versus St. Catharine College and Campbellsville University beginning January 2 and also faces Lindsey Wilson, Georgetown College and the University of the Cumberlands at home during the month. Home contests versus the University of Pikeville and Bluefield College take place in early February and the final regular season outings are at home against Shawnee State and Rio Grande on Feb. 27 and March 1, respectively.
Voorhees, Lindsey Wilson, Georgetown and Pikeville all reached last years NAIA National Tournament, with Lindsey Wilson winning the Mid-South regular season and tournament titles but Georgetown claiming the national championship.
Thompson begins his 12th season at Cumberland and returns seven letterwinners while welcoming 10 newcomers to this years roster. The most important addition could be the return of forward Lamar Brinkley, who missed last season with a foot injury.
The senior averaged 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 2011-12 and 7.5 points and 5.9 boards per contest in 2010-11.
