CU golfers pick up win
CLIFTON -- Cumberland’s men’s golf team picked up its second team victory of the season and freshman Guy Nardo also won low medalist honors last week at the Union University Fall Invitational at Ross Creek Golf Club in Wayne County.
Nardo shot a one-under-par round of 71 on the 7,100-yard, par-72 Ross Creek course.
Freshman Dustin Thomas also garnered All-Tournament accolades, posting an even-par round, while senior Benton Hart carded a one-over-par 73 for the Bulldogs, earning All-Tournament honors as well.
Freshman Paul Vaughan was the final scorer for CU in the one-day event, posting a round of two-over-par 74.
"We’ve got two freshman who are playing fantastic and two seniors who are also playing well," head coach Scott Wilkerson said. "It’s a real good combination right now. Plus our qualifiers are so competitive. We have three freshmen and three sophomores who can play at any time. The competition is awesome and it’s keeping our team sharp."
The Bulldogs won the team competition with a composite six-over-par 294, 12 strokes ahead of Union (306). Trevecca (308), Lambuth (312), Bethel (314) and Martin Methodist (323) rounded out the field.
