CU opens at TTU Thursday
Under the direction of head coach Watson Brown, the Golden Eagles play a brand of fast break football -- designed to wear down opposing defenses. We have tried to cover everything concerning Tech over the last couple of days, Suber said Monday, things have slowed down a little around here and I hope that helps our game preparation.Depth appears to be a major issue for the Bulldogs heading into Thursday. We have a true freshman (Nytrellis Ross) who is going to play at corner and our nickel back Anthony Knight (5-10, 181, redshirt soph) has been sick, so weve moved (returning) safety Grant Jones (5-10, 187, junior) over to corner, Suber said. The entire linebacker crew is new after losing three veteran starters to graduation.North Carolina State transfer Rickey Dowdy (6-1, 240) is slated to start at middle linebacker with Lebanon native Kyle Musice (6-0, 200, junior) working at the strong side backer.Musice has been playing through a painful elbow injury but is expected to be on the field Thursday night.Redshirt freshman Nathan Jernigan (5-11, 187) is the weak side linebacker.Perhaps the strength of the CU football team is the offensive line where four starters return from last season, including LT AJ Harmon (6-5, 333), C Grant Theal (5-10, 255), RG Tucker Cathey) 6-1, 321) and RT William Judson (6-7, 290). The only new starter is Catheys younger brother Riley Cathey (6-2, 257).The offense is led by redshirt junior quarterback Reed Gurchiek. The Mt. Juliet grad started all 11 contests last season, passing for 1,455 yards and nine TDs while rushing for 527 yards and seven more scores
Four Wilson Countians in PurpleThree former local standouts are listed on TTUs two-deep, including: Parker Teeter, a junior tight end from Friendship Christian School; * Brett Dillard, a soph tackle out of Mt. Juliet; * redshirt freshman defensive end Kyron Hart from Lebanon HighListed on the roster and expected to play on special teams is true freshman LB Josh Belhu from Mt. Juliet.
