LEBANON -- Three players reached double figures Sunday evening as Cumberland defeated Oakwood University, 69-58 at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
Five different players scored during the Bulldogs (5-1) 16-2 run to start the second period, including six straight from Rodney James who finished with 12 points.
The senior made a steal near halfcourt and headed toward the other end. He was grabbed from behind while attempting a shot that hit off the top of the backboard and bounced in.
An intentional foul was called and James made both free throws. He was then on the other end of an assist from Channing Tucker for an easy layup and a 51-31 CU advantage seven minutes into the second half.
Oakwood never pulled closer than 16 points until the final minute of the contest.
Brandon Springer scored 17 points and Kenneth Simms chipped in with 12.
Cumberland plays an exhibition at the University of Montevallo (Ala.) Saturday, Nov. 29.
