CU women fall at Talladega Tuesday

TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Cumberland's women couldn't overcome 23 turnovers in Tuesday night's 85-76 loss at undefeated Talladega College.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 3-4 on the season, despite a brilliant effort from Brittany Lawson who led all scorers with 30 points and pulled in 13 rebounds.

The teams were tied seven times in the first 13 minutes of the contest before a 10-0 run by the home team put Talladega (8-0) ahead 34-24.

Buckets from TaCouya Allen and Lawson cut the deficit to six and Cumberland trailed, 39-34, at the break.

Lawson hit 8-of-12 field goals for 16 points in the period, but CU had 14 turnovers, leading to 17 Talladega points in the period.

Cowan registered 11 points and five assists and Allen recorded 10 points and nine boards. Lawson, a junior from St. Louis, MO, finished 14-of-23 from the field, while the rest of the club was 17-for-49 from the floor.

Kishaun Williams added nine points, five rebounds and four assists for the Lady Bulldogs, who play again Saturday, Dec. 7 at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Ala.
