CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY -- Cumberland Universty and Campbellsville staged a track meet of sorts Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs opened up the 2008 football season with a 48-38 road victory.
Junior quarterback Matt Eads threw for 401 yards and four tuchdowns, two to WR Josh Crouch.
"We weren't sure what we were going to get today," said CU coach Dewayne Alexander. "We had a little letdown in the fourth quarter. We had some things we were disappointed in, but bottom line, we went on the road and came away with a win. I'm awfully proud of our guys."
Temperatures hovered in the mi-90's as both teams went deep into their bench with Campbellsville reeling off an incredible 103 offensive plays. The two teams combined for 1,208 yards -- 526 for the Bulldogs.
Cumberland returns to action next Saturday as they travel to UT-Chattanooga.
