SILVIS, Ill- Cumberland University's Dustin Thomas carded an opening-round 84 on Tuesday in the suspended first round of the 60th annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships at the TPC Deere Run Course.
Thomas stands 123rd overall among 153 golfers in the field, which includes 29 teams and eight individuals.
The Cookeville native started his round on the back nine and bogeyed the par-4, 425-yard 11th hole before double-bogeying the 12th, a 203-yard par-3. He also double-bogeyed the par-4 15th hole and had just two pars on his first nine holes.
Thomas started the first nine much better, posting three straight pars, but then bogeyed four consecutive holes before picking up his only birdie of the round, on the par-4 eighth hole. But he followed that with a double bogey on his final hole of the round.
Six teams did not complete their round due to thunderstorms in the area and will conclude play at 6 a.m. Results from the suspended round may be found at http://www.golfstatresults.com//public/leaderboards/player/static/pdetail45305_2179.html#.
