'Dogs sweep Bluefield

Collier (5-1) retired 13 of the final 15 batters of the game in the second contest, starting with a 4-6-3 doubleplay to end the third inning. The righthander gave up a single in the fourth and a double in the fifth, but preserved the 1-0 margin for his third consecutive victory single returning to the starting rotation. He walked one and struck out six, helping the Bulldogs post their 12th consecutive conference win.The lone run of the game came on an RBI single from Hunter Bartlett in the second inning after Bryan Haney reached on an error to leadoff the frame.


Cumberland scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning in the opener, with Hall reaching on an error by second baseman Will Simpson. He stole second before Craig Monson walked and Ross single down the rightfield line plated one run. With two outs Bluefield third baseman Jamie Blackwell booted a grounder off the bat of Tyler Anderson, allowing another run to score for CU.In the third Nolan Gray doubled to rightcenter and Ross followed with a single. Gray went to third on the play and scored on an error by centerfield Chris Rosa for a 3-0 Bulldogs advantage.Alford started the fourth inning with a single and pinch-runner Chris Del Bianco moved to second on Ryan Critchelows sacrifice bunt. Cory Urquhart and Hall both walked, loading the bases, before another free pass, this one to Gray, forcing in a run. Ross was then hit, forcing in another run, and Daniel Harrisons sacrifice fly plated the final run of the contest.Justin Lykins (2-6) suffered the loss for the Rams, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts in six innings.


Haney reached on an error by Simpson with one out the second inning in the second game and went to second on a wild pitch. With two outs Josciel Veras reached on an infield single, putting runners on the corners, before Bartletts single to the left side gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 edge.Cumberlands only other good scoring chance of the game came in the fourth when Haney walked to leadoff and Del Bianco reached on a bunt attempt. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and with two outs Urquhart walked, loading the bases, but Richie Seaton popped up to end the threat.Zach Russell-Myers (5-7) took the loss for Bluefield, giving up one run on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
