He was an active member of the community having owned a hardware business, involved in real estate development, and worked as an appraiser and served on the Board of First Federal Savings and Loan.
His remains rest at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Lebanon, where the family will receive friends Tuesday 3-7 p.m.
Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Rev. Sherard Edington officiating.
Survivors include: sons Walter (Kathy) Baird of Nashville and Ed (Holli) Baird of Brentwood; grandchildren Sarah (Chris) Morris of Franklin; Stuart Baird of Brentwood; Taylor Baird and Emily Baird -- both of Atlanta, GA; great grandson Connor Preston Morris.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sara Howell Baird -- who died April 19, 2010. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to the First Presbyterian Church, 304 W. Main St., Lebanon 37087.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregiver, Gaynell Dover and also to the staffs of Hearthside, The Pavillion, and Gentiva Hospice.
