That evening the students enjoyed an evening tour of the many memorials in the center of the town including those in memory of President Lincoln and President Washington. Afterwards, the students and parents paid tribute to all the fallen soldiers while visiting the Korean, Vietnam, and WW II memorials.

That same evening all gathered at the Washington Memorial overlooking the White house – in prayer and devotion. Barry Sherril led the parents and students in song and the students of Wilson County represented the county well, as many visitors commented on their respectful behavior.

Another full day was spent visiting the various Smithsonian museums, the National Archives, Library of Congress and Supreme Court. Later that evening some of the students attended the Phillies vs. the Nationals game while others were lucky enough to enjoy cupcakes from Georgetown Cakes – made famous by the television show D.C. Cupcakes.

The next day the students visited George Washington’s estate, Mt. Vernon, and then paid tribute at the FDR and Jefferson memorials. Afterwards, everyone in attendance witnessed first hand the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Arlington Cemetery. A highlight of the trip was a guided tour of the Capital, followed by a photo op at the White House. Later that evening the students and parents enjoyed dinner at Union Station.

It was a trip full of adventures and memories that no one will soon forget.
