FCS headed to BlueCross Bowl

OLIVER SPRINGS -- Friendship Christian rushed for 344 yards and and QB Brennan Swindoll threw three touchdown passes in a 39-6 victory at Oliver Springs Friday night in the Class 2A semifinals.

The win sends the 11-3 Commanders into the state finals Saturday at Tennessee Tech against a 13-2 Dresden team that defeated Adamsville 32-19 in the other semifinal game.

After recording tough playoff wins on the road against Trousdale County and Boyd Buchanan, Coach John McNeal's team scored early and ofter against OSHS.

"I was really proud of our effort tonight," McNeal said. "We had a pretty good balance on offense and our defense kept them bottled up."

friendship's defense limited Oliver Springs to five first downs and just 83 yards rushing on 27 tries.

Two Commanders broke the 100-yard rushing mark as Dekolas Reeves piled up 131 yards on 14 carries and Talon Melhloff added 117 on 12 attempts.

Swindoll completed all five of his passing attempts for 89 yards.

FCS will be making its second appearance in the state finals. The Commanders lost to Jackson Christian in the BlueCross Bowl back in 2006 at Middle Tennessee State University.
