FCS QB is a Mr. Football finalist
Friendship Christian senior A.J. Long was announced Thursday, Nov. 14 as one of three finalists for a Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Award in the Division II-A Back category.
Long, a two-year starter at quarterback for the Commanders, has completed 48-of-93 passes (51.6%) for 1,070 yards, 14 TDs and four interceptions while running for 478 yards on 78 carries and scoring 11 touchdowns.
The Syracuse commitment missed two early season games, both losses, at Trousdale County and Knox Webb.
Long, who moved to Lebanon in the spring of 2012, was a Class 2A All-State pick as a junior, as he helped lead the Commanders to a state championship.
Now in Division II-A, FCS will play at St. George's Friday night in the second round of the playoffs.
Other finalists in the DII-A Back category are Cole Heotis of ECS and Todd Kelly, Jr., of Webb School of Knoxville.
The award will be presented Monday, Dec. 2 at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in Murfreesboro.
