FCS wins 8A baseball

Stefan Remus threw a five-inning, three-hitter. He allowed just two earned runs, struck out six and walked one batter.

Earlier in the day, FCS sent Trousdale County to the losers bracket with a 14-4 win in six innings. Lefty Brennan Swindoll threw a one-hitter, striking out 10 Jackets.

Hawks drove in five runs with a pair of hits, including a bases-loaded triple to end the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Trousdale Co. 4, Watertown 2LEBANON -- Trousdale County earned a berth in the regional tournament with a 4-2 victory over Watertown in the finals of the losers bracket Tuesday evening. The Purple Tigers ended the season with a record of 16-12-2, the high-water mark for the Watertown baseball program.

The Tigers managed just six hits against TCs Eli Hunter -- including a Dennie Holcomb homerun in the second inning.

Dusty Meador was tagged with the loss, scattering five hits and three walks in five innings of work along with six strikeouts. Meador helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly.

8A SOFTBALL Trousdale Co. 2, FCS 1RED BOILING SPRINGS -- Trousdale County eliminated Friendship Christian from the District 8A softball tournament Thursday by a 2-1 score, earning the Lady 'Jackets a spot in next week's Region 4 tournament.

Tana Whited knocked in the only FCS run of the day with a first inning RBI single, only to see Trousdale County counter with two in their half of the second.

The loss ended the Friendship Christian season at 20-13 overall.

Gordonsville 7, FCS 3RED BOILING SPRINGS -- Friendship Christians softball team slid in the District 8A losers bracket with a 7-3 loss to Gordonsville Wednesday.

Tana Whited had a two-run single for FCS, who mounted a 3-2 lead before the Lady Tigers scored four runs in the fourth.

ALL-DISTRICT TEAM Kaity Woodall of Friendship Christian was voted 8A MVP and teammates Tana Whited, Courtney Petty and Jordan Burton were elected all-district. Watertown players Jordan Brewington, Tiffany Tomlinson and Allison Burton were also named all-district.

ALL-TOURNAMENTTana Whited of Friendship and McKay Hill of Watertown made the all-tournament team.

SOFTBALL / Friendship Christian 6, Trousdale Co. 3 --RED BOILING SPRINGS -- Kaity Woodall drilled a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth as Friendship Christian defeated Trousdale County 6-3 Tuesday in the District 8A softball tournament.

Woodall and Courtney Petty took turns pitching and limited the Lady 'Jackets to five hits, striking out six and allowing no earned runs. Petty and Tana Whited each went 4-for-4 for the Lady Commanders.

FCS, now 20-11 overall, takes on No. 1-seeded Gordonsville today at 5 p.m. in the finals of the winner's bracket.

Watertown, a 4-1 loser to GHS on Tuesday, will play TCHS at 7 p.m. tonight in a loser-out contest.

BASEBALL / Friendship Christian 16, Gordonsville 0 --LEBANON -- Friendship Christian exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 16-0 victory over Gordonsville Tuesday in the District 8A baseball tournament. The Commanders, now 23-6, ripped 17 hits against three Tiger hurlers.

Hunter Watts, Caleb Snider, Gunneer Osborne and Cale Mitchell had three hits apiece. Snider and Osborne each drove in three runs while Mitchell lofted a solo homer in the bottom of the first. Brennan Swindoll added a grandslam homer in the third inning.

Lefty Michael Hawks kept Gordonsville off the scoreboard for all five innings, allowing just three hits while ringing up five strikeouts. He walked two batters.

BASEBALL / Watertown 4, Gordonsville 2 --LEBANON -- Watertown advanced to the finals of the loser's bracket later today following Tuesday's 4-2 victory over Gordonsville in the District 8A baseball tournament at FCS.

Dusty Meador drove in a pair of runs with a single and a double while Robert Caruthers pounded a two-run home run.

Earlier in the day, the Purple Tigers dropped 9-7 decision to Trousdale County, falling behind 6-0 in after three innings.
