His best season was the 1973 campaign where his Blue Devils finished 25-3 overall.

Foster retired in 1999 after 36 years of service to Wilson County Schools including stints as a classroom teacher at LHS and  guidence counselor at both Lebanon and Mt. Juliet High, testing coordinator for the county, and attendance supervisor for the county.

He was elected to two four-year terms as Superintendent of Schools and served a four-year tenure as a member of the Wilson County Commission (then known as the Quarterly Court).

For 19 years, Foster was a well-respected TSSAA basketball official and worked the state tournament on numerous occassions.

Foster and his wife Cheryl Evins Foster, celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this past October. They are the parents of two children, John Richard Foster and Monica Michele Foster Carson. John died in a single car wreck July 1999 and Michele is married to Kevin Carson of Mt. Juliet.

The Fosters have four grandchildren: John Brady Foster (16), Elijah John Carson (7), Micah Bailey Carson (4), and Kiah Riley Carson (16 months).
