Franklin headed to Vandy
A.J. has a very high ceiling, said Wilson Central baseball coach Anthony Ford. Hes got good velocity and a good make up. He has a chance to be very successful at that level.
A.J. has a good head on his shoulders and hes been a tremendous asset for our team. He eats and sleeps baseball -- and has been that way since he was six or seven years old. Hes even got a field in his back yard.
Franklin is expected to make his decision official by signing a National Letter of Intent with the Commodores in November of 2014.
Franklin went 6-2 as a starter and picked up a pair of saves out of the bullpen for the Wildcats this past season as a sophomore.
He was voted the Left Handed Pitcher of the Year in District 9-AAA on the strength of his 1.10 earned run average and 73 strikeouts in 57.3 innings of work. He also threw a complete game no-hitter against Station Camp.
Over the summer he earned a spot on the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Showcase Team and the Junior Border Wars Team.
He is the son of Jason and Lorie Franklin. Former Mt. Juliet High standout Kyle Smith wrapped up his freshman season with the Commodores in 2013.
Former MJHS pitchers Taylor Hill and Caleb Cotham enjoyed successful runs at Vandy and are both playing professionally.
