OFFENSIVE, SPECIAL TEAMS POW
Cumberlands Reed Gurchiek and Beau Baker earned Mid-South Conference Football Players of the Week, as announced Monday.
The weekly honor is the first of the season for both players. Gurchiek earns his second conference weekly honor of his career after picking up offensive player of the week on Nov. 5, 2012.
Gurchiek accounted for 324 yards of total offense and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs 41-31 victory at Belhaven University on Saturday to earn Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The Mt. Juliet junior quarterback finished the game 14-of-18 passing for 135 yards and a touchdown toss. On the ground, Gurchiek rushed for 189 yards and a touchdown as Cumberland moved to 1-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference West Division. His 189 yards is the third highest rushing total of the season in the MSC.
Gurchiek ranks seventh in the Mid-South in total offense (162.7 yards per game) this season. He also ranks in the top-10 in rushing yards per game (72.0) and passing yards per game (90.7).
Baker was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals in Cumberlands win to earn MSC Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Mt. Juliet senior kicker, who prepped at Friendship Christian School, nailed kicks from 22, 31, 32 and 35 yards to remain perfect on the season (5-for-5). Baker also made all three of his extra point tries to stay perfect in five attempts this season.
Baker is the only Mid-South kicker this season that is perfect both from field goals and extra points. He is tied for third among kickers in the conference averaging 6.7 points per game and fifth in the MSC with 20 points.
