The annual Halloween on the Square in Lebanon has been moved to Friday night, from 5 until 8, due to concerns about possible severe weather on Thursday and Thursday night, said Sue Vanatta, president and CEO of the Lebanon/Wilson County Chamber of Commerce.
The forecast from the National Weather Service Office in Old Hickory calls for a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday with a high of 72 and winds out of the south at 5-10 mph increasing to 10-15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
There is a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday night – Halloween – with a low of 59. Winds will be out of the south at 5-15 mph becoming west southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
The storm system is still forming in the western U.S. If it comes together as expected, the main threat will likely be damaging straight line winds with a “marginal” tornado threat. The time frame, NWS meteorologists said, is looking more and more like it will be between 2 p.m., Thursday through midnight, just as youngsters often go trick-or-treating.
The weather on Friday is expected to be much improved, although it will be cooler. Skies should be mostly sunny during the day with a high of 69. Friday night should be partly cloudy with a low of about 46.
