Fairview Church in Lebanon wants to offer people in Wilson County hope and rest in a time of trouble so it’s sponsoring a Heart for Israel Conference this weekend called “The Lion Roars from Zion,” and more than 800 people are expected to attend.
Set to appear at Fairview are former University of Colorado football coach and Promise Keepers founder Bill McCartney, among others.
“Our church has always had a heart for Israel,” said organizer Paula Renfro.
So when the pastor of the church, Michael Christian, suggested flying an Israeli flag, the congregation agreed, she said.
Later when Yochanan Ben Yehuda and his family came from Hartsville to visit the church, the flag convinced them that this was the church that they, as Messianic Jews, wanted to join.
“I am a Jewish believer in Jesus,” Ben Yehuda said. “So that really touched me.”
This is the second year the church has hosted this event. Last year, about 500 people attended, Renfro said.
“There is great interest for this event both nationally and internationally. We currently have over 850 people registered from 22 different states and three countries,” this year, she added.
Ben Yehuda said the event is intended to provide hope and peace in a time of woe.
“This is a time when the woes of the world are pressing on everyone,” he said. “This conference is free, and it is to provide hope for everyone, the community and everyone who comes. We want to open our doors and go into the highways and byways and say come and find peace and rest.”
The event will take place on Friday, March 6, from 6:30 until 9 p.m., and Saturday, March 7, from 11:30 a.m.until 5 p.m., with a concert to follow from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.
In addition to McCartney, presenters include Dr. Raleigh Washington, also a co-founder of Promise Keepers and Road to Jerusalem; Melody Green, author and founder of Last Days Ministries; Pastor David Davis of Mt.Carmel Assembly in Haifa, Israel; Karen Davis, international worship leader and recording artist; Jordan Elias from Heart for Israel Ministries; and recording artists Michelle Gold and Rachel Washington.
Christian, Fairview’s pastor, and Ben Yehuda, founder and president of Heart for Israel Ministries and Galilee of the Nations Music, will also be participating in the conference.
At a difficult time in this nation’s history where America, Israel and other nations are being barraged by the woes, the military woes of the world, the economic woes and spiritual woes, this Heart for Israel Conference will provide hope in the Lord for all who come, Renfro said.
“If you have become weary with the times and are thirsty for the Truth, you will receive encouragement in the hour in which we live,” she said.
