Special Olympics of Wilson County is hosting a welcome back social for any athletes interested in participating in basketball, bocce or swimming. Anyone willing to help with Special Olympics please join the fun too. The social will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 27 at Don Fox Park. Athletes should bring snacks to share.

Greg Armstrong wins 500K race

SAND MOUNTAIN, AL -- Taking extreme running to a completely different level, Friendship Christian School cross-country coach Greg Armstrong won the Vol State 500K early Monday morning, running some 314 miles in a little over three days.

A high school teacher at FCS, Armstrong is an ultra-marathon runner / iron-man triathlete and is the founder of Run 4 Water -- an effort to provide clean drinking water to undeveloped nations.
