BREAKING NEWS -- Gavin McKinney, head coach of the Cumberland University women's soccer program, was announced Tuesday as the new head coach at NCAA Division I University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

McKinney had a 71-26-3 (.725) record in five seasons at Cumberland, including three straight trips to the NAIA Sweet 16.

MT. JULIET -- Visiting Siegel needed two overtime periods to finally dispose of Mt. Juliet Tuesday in boys basketball action. The seesaw game was tied at the end of regulation 61-61, then 64-64 at the end of the first overtime.

Trey Pruitt was brilliant in the loss, scoring 30 for the Golden Bears, who dropped to 3-7 on the season.

McKENZIE -- Marquel Hickerson netted 16 points, leading four players in double figures, but Caleb Hardy hit a short jumper under the basket just before the buzzer, giving Bethel University a 65-63 victory over Cumberland in men's basketball action Saturday.

The Bulldogs (5-7) led by as many as 13 points in the first half and took a 32-29 advantage to intermission. The second half featured five ties and nine lead changes, the final one on Hardy's basket in the last second of the contest.
