855 vote early on sales tax hike

Early voting in the City of Lebanon Sales Tax Referendum ended Thursday, Sept. 18 with 855 total votes recorded.

Early voting began Sept. 3 at the Wilson County Election Commission. The election will be held Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the 12 regular assigned polling places from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Wilson County Schools Director Dr. Donna Wright told county commissioners on Monday night the system was "investigating" the seven-period schedule implemented at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year.

She explained during a follow-up interview with The Wilson Post on Tuesday that it goes "a little deeper than just investigating."

LEBANON -- Sophomore Sammy Groves netted a hat trick and assisted on two other goals while Shauna Gilpin and Kaitlin Phillips each scored twice in 8th-ranked Cumberland's 10-0 victory over Shawnee State in women's soccer action Sunday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.

The Bulldogs (7-0-1, 2-0-0 Mid-South) took a while to find a groove against a very high backline for the Bears, with CU called offsides six times in the opening period.

Simmons pick seals deal for MJ
GLADEVILLE -- Tavner Simmons' leaping interception at the two-yard line preserved Mt. Juliet's 17-10 victory over Wilson Central Friday at Wildcat Stadium.

The win was the sixth in a row for the Golden Bears over their cross-country rivals and was played in front of a packed house.

Aruh goal, assist lifts CU men

Lebanon High graduate Chuka Aruh scored the first goal and assisted on another in Cumberland's 3-1 win over Shawnee State in men's soccer action Sunday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.

The Bulldogs (2-4-1, 1-1-0 Mid-South) scored the first two goals of the match and got an insurance tally in the 87th minute, with Alex Marr netting his second goal of the year on a nice assist from Aruh.

VOLLEYBALL: LHS blanks Wilson Central

Lebanon High's volleyball team improved to 14-6 on the season and 6-3 in District 9AAA following Thursday night's 3-0 home win over Wilson Central. Game scores: 25-12, 25-20 and 15-13.
