University Medical Center opened the new, all private patient room Intensive Care Unit (ICU) containing approximately 7,000 square foot square feet on Monday, July 26.

The new ICU includes 12 new private patient rooms, state-of-the-art technology, private family consultation room, and support spaces. The project cost approximately $1 million.

"We are very excited to open our new Intensive Care Unit," said Saad Ehtisham, CEO of UMC. “The new ICU is designed with patient and family centered in mind. We are focused on creating an ideal patient experience by using technology to enhance our workflows, this allowing our staff to spend more time at the bedside.”

UMC is owned and operated by Health Management Associates, Inc. of Naples, Fla.

In 2009, construction was completed on the $26 million, four-story patient tower that offers 60 new private patient rooms. The 77,000 square foot facility provides state of the art health care for Wilson County.
